Temporary Art Installation for Grand Reveal Event

Platte Valley Arts Council, Inc. (PVAC) announces a fundraiser for the Platte Valley Public Art Project.

PVAC Fundraiser Announced

Platte Valley Arts Council, Inc. (PVAC) announces a fundraiser for the Platte Valley Public Art Project.  Creative souls can purchase a mosaic tile kit, paint their own design, and then add it to a mosaic mural which will be displayed at the Grand Reveal Event on September 3.

What is a Mosaic?

A mosaic is a collection of tiles that come together to create one overall pieceof art. Each tile is an expression of its artist with a unique experience to share. When these diverse images come together, a magnificent piece of art is born.  For a carefully designed mosaic to come to life, each tile is painted with a tonal value for its very specific place in the overall mural.

Tile Kit Details

The tile kit will cost $20.00 to purchase. Each kit will contain a 6” canvas tile with a magnetic backing.  You will also receive instructions, four paintbrushes of various sizes, and six acrylic paint colors in small paintpots.

Your completed painted tile is due back on the deadline of August 31, 2022, in order to be included in the project.  The finished mural will be displayed from 1-4pm on Saturday, September 3 at Harmony Park, on McCaffrey Street in Encampment.

Afterthe temporary installation, artists may pick up their tile at The Red Wagon on Saturday,September 10 or Sunday, September 11, between 1pm and 4pm.

Tiles can be purchased online or at either The Red Wagon (614 McCaffrey Street in Encampment) or at Town & Country Realty (403 S First in Saratoga) after May 23.

PVAC President Alyson Sneddon participated in a similar project on a national scaleand brought the idea to the arts organization. Sneddon warns

“If you want to participate, please purchase your tiles as soon as possible.  We expect they will go quickly and have a limited number of kits.”

The Platte Valley Public Art Project is supported in part by a grant from the Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund, a program of the Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources.  Project grant funding has also been awarded by Wyoming Community Foundation, Bridge Street Bargains, Carbon County Visitors Council, and Wyoming Business Council.

The PVAC will host a Grand Reveal Event on September 3 in which six new public art pieces will be revealed. Six local artists have been creating their pieces since February.  The day will also include a presentation, refreshments, and a dance performance at Platte Valley Community Center. PVAC will also launch a new website and print a brochure highlighting the new public art pieces, existing murals, and other public art in the Platte Valley.
